SECURITY THREAT IN IKORODU DIVISION: NEIGHBORHOOD SAFETY CORP HOLD STAKEHOLDERS MEETING. | Shakiru Seidu. "Royal fathers has no involvement in Badoo, we're victim of development in Ikorodu Division" -Ranodu

The Neighborhood Safety Agency under the auspices of his excellency, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, the Governor of Lagos State was on Tuesday, 11th of July, 2017 held a security stakeholders meeting at the Local Government Secretariat, Ikorodu. This is to rub minds together in finding lasting solution to the security challenges in Ikorodu division.

The State Chairman, Neighborhood Safety Corp, DIG Israel Ajao (Rtd) MON, after the opening prayer, gave the welcome address and enjoined the residents of Ikorodu division to partner with the security operatives to put a stop to this dreaded group called Badoo.

Reactions from the audience bothering on unemployment, threat to the security of life and property. Mr Laja Martins, CDC Chairman, Ikorodu North wants the government to create employment opportunities.

However, the Chief Imam, Ikorodu, Sheik Ademoritan Oloworibi  affirmed that, Ikorodu's problem emanated from the land grabbers (Ajagungbale) and the nonchalant attitudes of the residents aided the spread of crime. He further appealed to the government to adequately engage the youths, while imploring the security agents to be in harmony.

In the spirit of security awareness, the CAN President Ikorodu, Bishop Prof. R.A. Oguntuwase clamoured for the recruitment of additional neighbourhood corps in order to synergize with the VGN and should ensure that they are fully armed. He appealed to the Lagos state government to also consider the religious groups in their programs.

The head of Onyabo, Chief Kamorudeen Bombata Oshikabala however insisted that the local vigilante called Onyabo is one indivisible team that is always ready to combat crime. In the same vein, the Seriki of Hausa community, Alhaji Shittu Idris urged everyone to consistently pray for the community. He also emphasized his efforts in orientating his people always. He therefore sued for cooperation among the security operatives.

The traditional leader, Chief Abudu Sanni, Alakan of Imota, urge the people to embrace the tradition to enable the security to easily track down criminals in Ikorodu division. Chief Eze Ikechukwu, the Eze Ndigbo of Ikorodu West affirmed the support of the Igbo community to successfully combat crimes in Ikorodu division.

The VGN Area Commander, Ikorodu division, Mr Ogunyemi Benson urged for love and unity among the security  operatives. He equally tasked the CDA to pay their dues regularly. While Mr Solarin Olusegun (Aga CDA Chairman) thanked HRM Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi and wants the King to jointly work with the neighbourhood watch. The Nigeria Police was adequately represented as ASP Adegboyega Esther appealed against jungle justice of any form.

However, Mr Tunde Gbolade, the Chairman of the Hoteliers in Ikorodu division and also the owner of De-Sleek Hotel Igbogbo denied harbouring criminals in their industry. He pledged his support and loyalty to the community.

In the same spirit, Alhaji Issa Gbadamoshi from Igbogbo affirmed that the people have lost confidence in the Police. He therefore enjoined the government to adequately equip the police for effective service delivery.

The Sole Administrator, Ikorodu Local Government, Prince Gbolahan Ogunleye advised everyone to be security conscious and should desist from engaging in jungle justice. This was upheld by Baale of Omitoro who solicited for quota for the nighbourhood and wants all the Baales to be included in the recruiting exercise.

HRM Oba Mudashiru Ajibade Agoro, the Ranodu of Imota Kingdom, when speaking on behalf of the Royal fathers in Ikorodu division denied the involvements of any Oba in the recent criminal activities. He was so emphatic that Boko haram began in the similar way the Badoo cult group is operating.

He therefore urged the government to combat the menace as a matter of urgency, while denying the involvement of the Royal fathers with Badoo. He attributed the menace to  societal problem and neglect. In addition, he appealed against jungle justice, "the problem of insecurity was also attributed to the disunity among the various security operatives", he added.

Oba Agoro therefore advised that the unlawful possession of fire arms by the unregistered security outfit should be halted with immediate effect and to check the excesses of others.

The State Chairman of Neighbourhood Safety Corp, DIG Israel Ajao Rtd., confirmed that the Lagos state government is working assiduously to surmount the unemployment challenges. He promised to work on the submission and the proposition of the people, while tasking the Divisional Commander to work closely with the attendance. He further assured of subsequent stakeholders meeting of such magnitude.

Nevertheless, the representative of Ikorodu division in Neighbourhood Safety Corp at the State level, Princess Kofoworola Adegboye thanked the people for their large turn out in her vote of thanks before the CAN President gave the closing prayer.

Among those that graced the occasion were His Royal Majesties, Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi, the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Abdulsemiu Orimadegun Kasali, the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, Oba Mudashiru Ajibade Agoro, the Ranodu of Imota, the six Sole Administrators in Ikorodu division, traditional Chiefs, league of Baales in Ikorodu division, religious groups, CDCs, Security operatives, Artisans, Industrialists, among others.
