LAGOSIANS CELEBRATE MOTHER'S DAY AT JJT PARK IN ALAUSA | Shakiru Seidu. As Hip Hop Star, Kiss Daniel Thrills Fans

Scores of Lagos residents on Sunday converged on the recently unveiled Johnson Jakande Tinubu (JJT) Park in Alausa, Ikeja to celebrate this year's international mother's day amidst pumps and pageantry.

The special celebration sponsored by Friesland Campina, makers of Peak Milk, was preceded by a tour of exciting places in Lagos State.

There were lots of food, drinks and exciting prizes for winners of the mini competition on general knowledge quiz.

Speaking on his experience, a Lagos resident, Mr Abiola Dauda who took his wife out for the mother's day celebration at JJT Park, said the experience was pleasant and awesome.

He said: "We are here to be part of the celebration and this has really been an eventful one. We came in after the church service this morning and the first thing was that we had a tour round interesting places in Lagos State. Even though we might have been passing through those places everyday but the hustle and bustle of Lagos has made us not to appreciate some of those images that we have all around Lagos but today we had fun going round."

He particularly commended the State Government for upgrading the JJT Park to its present State, saying the environment was serene and conducive.

"JJT Park is really phenomenal. This is the type of park that people pay so much to experience but Lagos State, in trying to set the pace for other States, has made the park free of charge. People come in from to relax, have a good time and the experience had been very fantastic.

"The quality of the toilet is very clean; the environment is green and relaxing. I must really commend the effort of the Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode and the executive. if this is what they are doing with our taxes, it's worth it. More kudos to him. This is something that makes Lagos State to stand out among the other States in Nigeria," Dauda said.

Also, another fun seeker, Mrs Folashade Olaoye said the awesome experience she was subjected to at the park, made her to be proud to be a mother.

"I am proud to be a mother. It was fun today; I met new people and enjoyed myself in this very nice environment. I want to thank the organisers of this event and the Lagos State Government for this nice environment," she said.

On her part, Mrs Ajayi Oluwayemisi said the experience would linger for long in her mind, as she had fun to the fullest.

"I am happy to be alive today to be among the living. This is a very great park and the environment is very neat for the people to enjoy themselves," she said.

High point of the event was the performance by hip hop star, Kiss Daniel who thrilled the audience with his hit songs.

AMBODE INAUGURATES GOVERNING COUNCIL OF CITIZENS MEDIATION CENTRE | Shakiru Seidu. Charges Members To Advance Alternative Dispute Resolution Mechanism

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Wednesday inaugurated the Governing Council of the Citizens Mediation Centre (CMC), urging members of the Council to work assiduously to enhance the capacity of the Centre to provide free and effective alternative dispute resolution of matters.

Governor Ambode, who spoke at the inauguration ceremony, held at the Lagos House in Ikeja, said his administration will continue to ensure the growth and expansion of the CMC in recognition of the important role the Centre plays in mediating on disputes reported in respect of all matters that fall within the ambit of its statutory duties as well as providing free dispute resolution options.

“In every city where monetary, human and other capitals flow in such large volume as can be found in our State, an alternative to the adversarial means of resolving disputes must be put in place for easier and faster resolution of matters. Lagos State’s answer to this trend is the Citizens Mediation Centre.

“The Citizens Mediation Centre serves as an Alternative Dispute Resolution Centre providing a non- adversarial forum for the mediation and settlement of disputes between parties who voluntarily agree to the mediation of the disputes by mediators.

“In recognition of the important role the Centre plays in mediating on disputes reported in respect of all matters that fall within the ambit of its statutory duties as well as providing free dispute resolution options, we, as government have continued to ensure the growth and expansion of the Centre into remote areas of the State,” Governor Ambode said.

The Governor said the setting up of the Council was in line with the Citizens Mediation Centre Law of 2015 (CMC Law), whose functions, among other things would include monitoring performance of the Centre; assess user satisfaction of mediation services; review and formulate new policy guidelines for the Centre for the overall development and growth of the Centre, amongst other functions.

He said the composition of members of the council was based on their track record and area of expertise, just as he charged them to be diligent and demonstrate the integrity and impartiality which the task deserves.

“I have no doubt that you will all bring your wealth of experience to bear on the mandate of the Lagos State Citizens Mediation Centre and that you all will justify the confidence this administration has reposed on you,” Governor Ambode said.

Earlier, while introducing members of the Governing Council, the State’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Adeniji Kazeem recalled that the CMC was established in 1999 as a unit under the Directorate of Citizens’ Right of the Lagos State Ministry of Justice before it emerged as an entity by law in 2007 to provide speedy free legal services to the needy and residents of the State irrespective of tribe, race and religion.

The Governing Council is headed by Hon. Justice Olayinka Gbajabiamila rtd as Chairman and Mrs Oluwatoyin Ogunsanya; Mrs Omololu Adesina; Mrs. Amanda Asagba; Mr. Mohammed Iskil Lawal; Mr Tokunbo Jaiye- Agoro and Mrs Yinka Odukoya as members.

The Attorney General said over the years, the Centre has become a household name, a reference point and a model for other States due to the commitment of the State Government to enhance their service delivery.

“The template of the Citizens’ Mediation Centre over the years has been replicated in some States through the effort and assistance of the Lagos State CMC. The establishment and activities of the centre has also engendered the inclusion of Conflict Resolution studies as practiced in some tertiary institutions in Nigeria,” Kazeem said.

He said the Centre currently has 18 units spread across the State, assuring that the present administration will ensure expansion of the Centre in each Local Government Area and Local Council Development Area in the State in order to bring mediation services closer to the people.

In his vote of assurance, the newly appointed Chairman of the Council, Justice Gbajabiamila thanked Governor Ambode for the confidence reposed in him and members of the Council, assuring that they would work assiduously to carry out their task in the best interest of Lagosians.

"ARE WE NOT PART OF LAGOS STATE?" RESIDENTS OF OFFIN/ORETA COMMUNITY CRY OUT LOUD TO AMBODE. | Shakiru Seidu.

The residents of Oreta/Offin in Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA are lamenting and crying out to Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode on the deplorable conditions of Oreta and Offin roads which had made life unbearable for the residents while their roads have suddenly become death traps. This was established when Igbogbo Info Magazine visited the communities recently.

A cross section of distraught residents and community leaders lamented their plights while drawing the attention of the Publisher, Igbogbo/Baiyeku Info Magazine, Mr Shakiru Seidu, to the parlous state of the roads.

The anguished residents pleaded with the Lagos State authority to fix the dilapidated roads in order to make life meaningful to them. "life has become nightmare to the residents of Offin and Oreta as a result of the bad road", Baale Offin-Ile, Chief Alimi explained.

He said "it is almost a hopeless situation because driving on this Offin road has been hellish for residents, especially those who work in the city. Whenever it rains, motorists would park their cars and trek home. People would trek for about 2 hours to Igbogbo. Vehicles were usually damaged and it has practically become impossible to access the neighboring communities".

It was gathered that the dilapidated condition of the roads has equally affected security of lives and property in the communities. In most cases when there is emergency security situation, Police cannot access the scene because their vehicles will either get trapped or damaged by craters and pot holes that litter the roads.

The Chairman, Offin/Oreta Joint CDA, Otunba Hameed, applauded the good work of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode on his commitment on roads in Lagos State and implored him to extend his caring habit to Offin/Oreta roads.
