INT’L WIDOWS’ DAY: AMBODE’S WIFE EMPOWERS 103 WIDOWS …Distributes Cash, Skill Support Equipment, Others

To celebrate the 2017 International Widows’ Day, wife of the Lagos State Governor, Mrs. Bolanle Ambode on Thursday empowered at least 103 widows across age category with financial assistance, equipment support and skills training programme, during an event organized by her foundation, Hope for Women in Nigeria Initiative, HOFOWEM, at Oregun, Ikeja.

Empowerment materials distributed to the women included deep freezers, industrial gas cookers, photocopiers, grinding machines, embroidery machines, professional cameras, refrigerators, whipping machines and ovens, bag sewing machines, grinding machines, among others.

Speaking at the event, Mrs. Ambode noted that her foundation was established with the overriding objective of addressing major challenges confronting women and children, including poverty.

She said widows as some of the most vulnerable in society, needed support, hence the move by the foundation to empower them for self-reliance towards earning regular personal income.

According to her, “We had carefully studied the situation and discovered that this category of persons is the hardest hit by social circumstances around them. This is the reason our Foundation is focusing on them namely: the children, women, widows, the youth and the aged women”.

“Some days back, the world celebrated the 2017 edition of the Widow’s Day and to commemorate this, HOFOWEM decided to raise the stakes, packaging this programme for 103 widows still in their active years. This is to help them have a means of income”, she said.

Speaking further, she said the foundation decided to enlist the relatively younger widows for training in skills of their choice, to go with monthly allowance and would be supported with business equipment upon graduation, while the other two categories of women would get equipment support or financial assistance to expand their businesses.

‘This arrangement is designed to guarantee for you a stable means of income, to help meet your needs, those of your children, as well as your loved ones. It is hoped that this will bring more self-confidence for you, joy into your hearts and smiles to your faces’, she remarked.

Mrs. Ambode counseled the widows not to confuse their path with their destination.

She said, “To the beneficiaries, I live you with these words of encouragement, do not confuse your path with your destination. Just because it is stormy now does not mean you aren’t headed for sunshine. Always believe that something wonderful is about to happen to you. Never give up hope”.

The Governor’s wife, who thanked Power Oil and the Bank of Industry for collaborating with the foundation, as well as individual and corporate supporters, stressed that the foundation was working to complement the children and women-friendly programs of the state government.

Earlier, Chief Executive Officer of the foundation, Ms. Oyefunke Adeleke, who thanked the founder for approving and supporting the empowerment programme, recalled the several challenges facing widows, promising that the foundation would continue to seek succor for them as it had done in the past.

According to her, “At HOFOWEM, we believe in putting smiles on the faces of those we come across and this we would continue to do, especially with the less privileged in our society. Everybody deserves somebody who makes them look forward to tomorrow. And that is who we are at HOFOWEM, providing the shoulder to lean on”.

While educating the women on their rights under the law, Mrs. Omotola Rotimi, listed various forms of social infraction and widow abuses against them contrary to law, adding however, that they should always approach relevant agencies of the state government, for legal help towards redress for free of charge.

She said, “The greatest weapon of war against all forms of abuse is speaking out. Once a victim develops the courage to speak out and seek help, the problem is half solved. This is because without the victim there will be no war to fight”.

For help, she urged the women to approach the Office of the Administrator-General and Public Trustee; Directorate of Citizen’s Rights; Office of the Public Defender; Family Court; Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation; the Police or call emergency numbers 08036256457, 07032165181, 112 or 767.

Commissioner for Women Affairs in the State, Hon Lola Akande, Mrs. Susan Akande and Mrs Eniola Akinsete in their remarks urged the women to take advantage of the various skill acquisition centres in the state and the financial support to be provided by Bank of Industry at zero interest.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries in an emotion-ladden remarks Mrs. Celestina Osundiya, commended Mrs. Ambode for what she described as her thoughtfulness, kindness and unequalled passion to improve the welfare of less privileged persons.

POWER, ENVIRONMENT, TRANSPORT SECTORS WILL GET GREATER ATTENTION IN NEXT TWO YEARS- AMBODE …Says Lagos Open To Assist, Learn From Other States

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has said that his administration would prioritise attention to the Power, Environment and Transportation sectors in the next two years to drive all round development of the State.

Governor Ambode, who spoke during an interview session with journalists, said the three sectors are crucial to driving every other social infrastructure which the State Government intends to address headlong.

He said, “The last two years, what we have done is just to create a foundation of a vision that drives Lagos to the next 50 years. There is nothing that we can do in the next two years that is ever going to be enough.

“There are three things I want people to watch out for in the next 12 to 18 months, the issue of power, the issue of environment and the sanitation and issue of transportation. I believe those three sectors are the key sectors that can drive every other social infrastructure that we will be dealing with in Lagos.”

Speaking on the environment, Governor Ambode said it was pertinent that the State must strive to be cleaner and safer not just for residents alone, but also for visitors and investors willing to do business in the State.

“Lagos must get cleaner, safer and the way people commune from one place to another and one thing with Lagos, the more success you record, the more people want to come into the city,” the Governor said.

It would be recalled that the State Government has already concluded plans to commence the Cleaner Lagos Initiative, a brain child of the present administration aimed at improving the environment to make it cleaner, safer and healthier for all Lagosians by promoting a harmonised and holistic approach to the challenges; and as a result, improving operational efficiency.

Speaking on the interventions ahead on the transportation sector, the Governor said the Bus Reform initiative would take off before the end of the year with the introduction of modern buses that would not only transform the transport system, but also make it easier for Lagosians to move from one place to another.

On the power sector, the Governor said efforts were ongoing to ensure stable power supply for all industries in the State adding that the intention was to create embedded power in clusters in the city.

Governor Ambode, however, noted that despite the successes recorded, the State was also willing to learn from other States, just as it has also extended same to other sister States.

“There are also things that we are looking at from other States. We do not know everything. So, there are other States that are doing some things better than us. So, we must be submissive enough to learn from them and the same thing with other States from us. And that is whole lesson about leadership, leadership is about learning, it is about listening and which is what we do very well in Lagos,” he said.

What is historical about the event is that, it was the first time the crowned king in Igbogbo will observe Eid-el prayer.

At the Adeboruwa Palace, the Muslim's Spokesman, Fadilat Sheik Shaafi Imoloba, showered unique prayers upon the King and the people of Igbogbo community. He anticipated for more infrastructural development and urged the Kabiyesi and his Chiefs to endeavour to settle rifts and grievances among any aggrieved members of the community in order to promote unity, peace and progress.

Thereafter, the Odofin of Igbogbo, High Chief Tajudeen Onasanya, eloquently thanked the Muslim community and solicited for further prayers from them to enhance quick development of the community.

Odofin did not hesitate to cite an example of a sign of new development in Igbogbo pointing to the Water Project erected at the Palace of Adeboruwa and the only one in the whole of Lagos State from the federal government.

Regarding the recent Badoo issue which led to an uproar at the Palace, he recalled the remarks made by the newly deployed DPO, Mr Lawal, stating that "He doubted the future of Igbogbo community due to the utterances, non-challant attitudes and lack of respect displayed by the young ones on that fateful day." iCARE FOODBANK: THE TENACITY TO CRUSH POVERTY IN IKORODU DIVISION. | Shakiru Seidu. JB, an emblem of genuine leadership. -Daini

With all sense of decency and honesty, Hon. Babajimi Benson, MHR, has made name for himself which the posterity will forever emulate. The commencement of any laudable project may be very easy but oftentimes, maintenance and the sustainability of such programme usually becomes a life time obstacle. Without any iota of doubt, the above philosophy does not hold water in the presence of the vibrant legislator, Hon. Babajimi Benson.

As usual, hundreds of people were gathered at the Constituency Office of Hon. Babajimi Benson on Saturday, 24th of June, 2017, as beneficiaries of the food items tagged 'APO ANU' got their own portion of Babajimi's largesse. The laughter on the faces of the beneficiaries cannot be over emphasised as they were showering prayers on Hon. Babajimi Benson and his amiable wife, Mrs Jumoke Benson.

However, before the speech of Hon. Babajimi Benson, one of the iCARE Team members, Alhaji Ismail Oriare appreciated the participants and assured them of much better things to come from his principal.

Shortly after this, the erudite legislator, Hon Babajimi Benson, MHR, addressed the hundreds of people gathered and applauded them for believing in him. He seized that opportunity to solicit for their constant support and prayers to enable him do more than what he is giving them.

His amiable wife, Mrs Jumoke Benson also tendered her sincere appreciation to the women and wished them well in all their endeavours. She assured everybody of more better things to come.

The former Secretary to the Lagos State Government, Princess Adenrele Ogunsanya enjoined the people to always support Hon Babajimi Benson in prayers because God has always been sustaining him and for the good plan he holds for the masses to be achievable. She further implored everybody to key into the liberation era that has began.

Nevertheless, the APC flagbearer for the chairmanship position in Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, Comrade Olusesan Daini applauded Hon Babajimi Benson for his tenacious and unique leadership style in Ikorodu Division which he cherished and pray to emulate.

Daini therefore seized the opportunity to plead for people's support for all APC candidates in Ikorodu division in the coming Local Government Election.

The programme did not come to an end without an eloquent address from Mayor Deen Sanwoola, one of the strong loyalists of Hon. Babajimi Benson. He pleaded with the beneficiaries not to have taken the food to their various houses but assured them that the programme will not be cancelled as agitated by some ungrateful elements.

Deen also stated that the iCARE Foundation through it's iCARE Foodbank has been able to feed about 7,000 people in the last 9 months, by providing monthly food rations (Apo Anu) to 300 families every month.

Mayor further urged people to continually pray for JB as he aimed at empowering more people in Ikorodu Division.

Among those dignitaries that witnessed the programme includes Princess Adenrele Ogunsanya, Comrade Olusesan Daini, Hon. Olabisi Banjo, Prince Lanre Sanusi, the owner, Bolowotan Football Team, Mayor Deen Sanwoola, Mr Adebayo Oteju, Mr Taiwo Odumbo, and other iCARE Team, Adewale Bolowotan among many other Party faithfuls.

PRESS RELEASE: THE DEBATE PODIUM, WHAT IGBOGBO/BAIYEKU DESERVE

Our dear denizens of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, we have the pleasure to usher you into another voting period, where our fates are determined locally as against the general elections where we have a larger percentage of the nation's population involved. The implication of this is that we can reach a compromise within ourselves to adopt the best candidate whose precedents, antecedents and proven capabilities reflect the ideals desired of a leader capable of moving the LCDA forward.

It is not fallacious to state that issues bedevilling IGBOGBO/Baiyeku LCDA is aberrant and somewhat outlandish as it is conjectured one of the most backward LCDA's in terms of infrastructural Development, Good road network and Security inter Alia albeit a mere surmise without statistical basis however the need to get our priorities right at this point is apposite and crucial as this election will either make or Mar the communities image in years to come.

It is apt to apprise you that leadership and efficiency are Siamese twins that no Ben Carson can separate hence the need to conjure a proactive government with Distinct qualities sufficient to transform our Lcda such as Clarity, which suggests being clear and concise at all times and giving members of the community a privilege to digest their goals in order to decide whether or not to support their cause. Decisiveness, which shows a great consistency in their decision, commitment in their struggle and hardly allows backing out or changing their minds until it becomes absolutely compelling. Courage which shows fearlessness to tackle any societal menace and a clear eye to shrewd imposition or obtrusion from power brokers.

In Today's highly informational and technological environment,it has become increasingly important to have a good communication skills for proper networking as this is akin to the success of any government.we also cannot undermine the need for passion and zeal in the operation of government as it is a proven fact that as long as you are passionate about what you know or care about,it will shine through and people will follow, most importantly while confidence is a very attractive trait in leaders, there is nothing that helps to create a lovable persona than a humble character .Great leaders admit when they are wrong, take criticism as an opportunity for growth, showing the entire world how grateful they are to be where they are demonstrates how much the leadership role is deserved.

The absence of a good action plan is tantamount to failure ab initio and could inhibit the future possibilities of progress for a community headed by such government which is quite inimical, This explains the essence of a POLITICAL DEBATE for all candidate in the Local Government elections in IGBOGBO/BAIYEKU LCDA tagged "The Debate Podium, What Igbogbo Deserve".The primary objective of this is to create a nexus between candidates and electorates giving them ample opportunity to determine the best candidate with the greatest prospect and is most capable of liberating the community from its present shackles.

It becomes imperative and incumbent on a neutral body like Igbogbo Students' Union whose ideology was built on a rostrum of being non-partisan to look beyond party affiliation and create a level playing group devoid of bias, sentiment and prejudice and strictly in the best Interest of the community.

The stage is set for the public speaking treatise coming up 1ST JULY 2017 at Adeboruwa Palace by 10am,it Is on a pacifying note that we appeal to all clubs and associations, significant juggernauts and members of the LCDA to come enmasse as we bring the candidates right before them to decide the community's fate just before the polls.

It is of a fact that a true democratic process must be a reflection of transparency and objectivity, it can be achieved through open societies that share information as when there is information, there is some form of enlightenment. When there is debate, there are solutions  however where there is no sharing of power, no rule of law, no accountability, there is abuse, corruption, subjugation and indignation. For the actualization of an innovative and ideologically driven government in IGBOGBO/Baiyeku LCDA, a concerted effort is required and the first step is to join this process aimed at securing the best government for our LCDA.

DENIAL OF NAKED TRUTH; AN ATTEMPT TO SUBVERT JUSTICE BY THE POLICE. | Shakiru Seidu

The last is not heard of the Badoo suspect arrested on Wednesday, 21st of June, 2017 at Igbogbo in Ikorodu division. The Guardian newspaper of Thursday 22nd of June, 2017 conspicuously copied and pasted the report of Igbogbo/Baiyeku Info Magazine on the incident.

It was emphatically stated in the last paragraph of page 13 of the Thursday publication of Guardian Newspaper thus ".....the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Olarinde Famous Cole, said there was nothing like a Badoo suspect being arrested. "

This is the height of the impunity and the level of levity the Security agents usually handle matters that bother on the Security of lives of people, I wonder why the aggrieved will not result to jungle justice.

As much as we frown at an act of jungle justice, the Police should not accelerate it. There is a total lost of confidence in our Police Officers disclaiming an incident which led to the destruction of the Vehicle of the newly deployed DPO to Igbogbo Police Station, CSP Lawal which was in my report.

However, everybody knew that it took the effort of the 174 Mechanized Battalion of Nigerian Army, Odogunyan to arrest the situation at the Palace of Adeboruwa of Igbogbo where the angry youths were so desperate to kill the suspect. In that process, the Police Chief's Vehicle was damaged to prevent the Police from whisking away the suspect and to be set free later.

The people of Ikorodu Division are living in grave danger for the fear of compromise on the side of the Security Agents. The IGP, CP and the Nigerian Army should please beam a search light on Ikorodu Division as a whole, perhaps there are powers that be who are behind this dreaded Cult Group called BADOO.

Urgent action needs to be taken to avert a State of Anarchy. In the main time, people should remain calm and be security conscious.

A SUSPECTED BADOO CULTIST CAUGHT IN IGBOGBO. | Shakiru Seidu We'll get to the root. -Nigerian Army

Once beaten twice shy they say. The insecurity challenges ravaging Ikorodu division recently have made the people to become psycho security alerted. This of course necessitated the apprehension of one notorious suspected Badoo cultist in the mid night of Wednesday 21st of June, 2017.

From the report gathered by Igbogbo/Bayeku Info Magazine, a resident who chose to be anonymous noticed a strange movement at Ayegbami Community, Igbogbo. When he pressed further to get the identity of the person, he discovered that he was half naked with a hard stone in his hand. While the culprit was attempting to penetrate a house at Felefon Street, the resident of the community quickly raise an alarm shouting "Badoo." The culprit quickly hid the stone in his hand inside a big bowl he found nearby and placed it upon his head with the pretence of going to fetch water.

His trick failed to appease the people who have trooped out enmass and gave him a hot chase till when he was finally nabbed at Akindana Street, Ayegbami in Igbogbo. He promised to give the youth who nabbed him a sum of #5,000, and when he saw their determination to kill him, he quickly increased it to #10,000 but they refused to yield to his offer as they mercilessly dealt with him before the intervention of the CDA Chairman (Baba Awe) and HRM Oba Abdulsemiu Orimadegun Kasali, the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo who have been duly notified of the event. He was later handed over to the Police for further interrogation to avoid jungle justice.

While at the police station to pursue the matter to a dead end, the Police handed the suspect over to one of the Elder Statesmen in Igbogbo, Alhaji Jelili Abubakri (Hassibunalahi) and the Neighborhood Safety Corp members to take him to the General Hospital for necessary treatment and bring him back for further interrogation.

This was at the presence of Mr Shakiru Seidu when the newly transferred DPO, Mr I. O. Lawal addressed everybody and equally gave his direct lines for any criminal information.

Few hours after the suspect Badoo was taken to the General Hospital Ikorodu for proper medical treatment in accordance with the directive of the DPO, Igbogbo Police Station. When he was discharged from the Hospital, the Police refused to take the custody of the culprit but handed him over to the Neighborhood Safety Corp who decided to take him to the Palace of Adeboruwa.

Unfortunately, this was hijacked by the angry youths who decided to adopts jungle justice and all efforts by Chief Tajudeen Onasanya, the Odofin of Igbogbo and Chief Jelili Oduntan, the Balogun of Igbogbo to calm the situation proved abortive.

After several calls to the DPO Igbogbo, Area N Commander, Ijede and Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni, the Police later surfaced at the Palace to come and take him to the Cell for further investigation, but the angry mob refused to let them have their way.

They insisted on jungle justice, in the process, the Vehicle which conveyed the new deployed DPO to Igbogbo Police Station was stoned massively and the tyres were equally deflated. It took the effort of the Nigerian Army of 174 Mechanized Battalion, Odogunyan to seized the scenario because the Police was handicapped by the angry mob.

The 174 Battalion, Odogunyan led by their Commander, Mr Eze was able to arrest the situation with sporadic shooting on air. When speaking with the Publisher, Igbogbo/Baiyeku Info Magazine, Mr Shakiru Seidu, he assured the King, Chiefs and the entire community that he'll handle the matter by himself. He further demanded for the copies of the statements made with the police from the Mr Lawal, the DPO, Igbogbo Police Station.

At this juncture both personal and community Security is paramount and everyone should be vigilant.
