LAGOS AT 50 GLAMOROUSLY CELEBRATED WITH BOAT REGATTA IN IKORODU DIVISION | Shakiru Seidu We are determined to develop this great potential for economic growth. -Ambode

It was no doubt a memorable day in the history of Ikorodu division on Saturday, 15th of April 2017, when the division was massively busy as Boat Regatta display was done on Ikorodu waters in commemoration of Lagos @ 50.

The opening prayer was rendered by the Chief Imam Ebute-Iga and also the Chief Imam of Ikorodu West, Alhaji Aridegbe Kosoko.

The former deputy Governor, Lagos State, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, who is also the Chairman of the day, heartily welcomed all the guests that represent.

He emphatically affirmed that Lagos is indeed a dream come true due to its attraction and aquatic splendour which makes her distinct.

He applauded Gov. Ambode for the laudable projects and his uncommon strategy employed in rebranding Lagos State. He commended our ever dynamic Governor on various projects he approved for Ikorodu division.

He therefore enjoined the state government to commission the Ferry Terminal in no time in order to ease the problem of traffic. While he called for thorough investigation of the Ferry project at Ibesheland.

However, shortly after his welcome address, it was the turn of Boat Regatta display as various community were taking turn to win the hearts of the audience with their dynamic displays.

The Agbowas in their multi colour attire opened the water display and followed by Ijede, Ibeshe, Ebute Iga, Baiyeku, Abule Eko, Ipakan, Egbin, Itokin and Agbowa respectively.

However, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode who was ably represented by the Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives, Prince Rotimi Ogunleye, expressed his determination to develop this great potential for economic growth in Lagos State.

Governor Ambode also reaffirmed that his Administration have invested massively in provision of facilities and infrastructures on our waterways. The issue of security especially on our waters is very important to us and resources have been deployed to ensure safety and security of the waterways as well as the channelization of the waterways, Gov. Ambode added.

When Igbogbo/Baiyeku Info Magazine spoke with the Ag. Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Hon. Mrs Adebimpe Akinsola on phone, she was filled with joy that her efforts and that of the others from Ikorodu Division were not in futility as Ikorodu division took part in the celebration of Boat Regatta.

Present at the event were: The Royal Majesties from Ikorodu Division, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun, Asipa Kaoli Olusanya, Commissioner Rotimi Ogunleye, Chief Olowu, Alh. Gafar, Prince Jimoh Ogunmuyiwa, Mr Okeowo, Alh. S.O.Amusa, Hon. Gbega Oshin, Rt. Rev. S.O. Osundina, Vr. Rev. M.O. Ogunsiji Alashe Abiola Kosoko.

Others were, Alh Sefiu Oginyemi, Hon. Ayodele Elesho, Mr Rotinwa, Wasiu Adesina, Hon. Banjo Adebisi and P.S. Finance, Otunba Taiwo Ogunleye and several other dignitaries.
