OLUSESAN DAINI, A WIND OF CHANGE IN IGBOGBO/BAYEKU LCDA. By Shakiru Seidu

Change they say is the only constant thing in life. I quite agreed with the school of thought but then, any change that has no definite purpose and direction is nothing but CHAIN and PAIN.

The ancient Igbogbo community has produced great men and women who are  technocrats, entrepreneurs, dynamic political leaders, business moguls and several other professionals.

In the history of Igbogbo kingdom, Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun is both an icon and a legend in the struggles of the emancipation of the community from mediocrity and backwardness through his uncommon and dynamism in charting the positive dreams of the community.

Basorun has been so instrumental to the vantage position the community is today. His influence as a renowned lawyer, banker and an intellect, saw to the rapid development of Igbogbo kingdom since early 50s. In fact, Asiwaju Olorunfunmi has been at the forefront of Igbogbo political struggles since his 20s.

Basorun, Ogunlewes, and some prominent families in Igbogbo had put in their best to move this community forward. Basorun was in the Local Council Governing Body at the age of 29. However, he made name for himself when he became the SSG for the first civilian government in Lagos State at the age of 41. He is no doubt an encyclopaedia of knowledge whom many young aspiring leaders need his mentorship and tutelage.

But then, things began to fall apart when the centre could not hold again according to Chinua Achebe. Reason being that the youths have decided to wake up from their slumber in order to take the bull by the horn.

History has it that the APC, Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA has two prestigious groups in terms of politics, The Justice Forum and The Mandate Group. The Justice Forum was initially headed by late Elder Olatunji Dawodu before Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun joined the group and took the leadership position while the Mandate Group is in care of Chief Adenrele Olowu.

Consequently, Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun, being the APC Apex Body Chairman in Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA threw his weight behind Hon. Taiwo Orenuga as his favoured candidate. A Maxim of law says that "Nemo judex imprioprio causasua" which means, you cannot be a judge in your own Court. Perhaps the Asiwaju opined that the present day generation of youths lack the temerity and the tenacity to hold leadership post due to the activities of some mediocre among the youth.

In my humble opinion, I guessed the action of the Asiwaju culminated every concerned members of APC to unanimously agreed with primary election as the only option to settle the rift among them rather than resulting to the archaic imposition of leaders that has brought them nothing but stagnancy.

Basically, it became paramount that the candidature of Comrade Olusesan Daini, Hon. Bosun Agoro and Hon. Taiwo Orenuga must pass through a litmus test of primary election which will produce a credible candidate who will chart the course of rapid development of Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA.

It is unarguably true that the decision of approaching primary election doesn't augur well with some persons. However the bone of contention is whoever the Mandate Group under the leadership of Chief Adenrele Olowu supported will carry the day. hence the lobbying of all sorts.

Nonetheless, the tenacious hope of wind of change enveloped Hon. Mrs Adebimpe Akinsola (Ag. Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture) as she vehemently threw her weight and support for the candidature and anticipates the emergence of Olusesan Daini whom she believed will not fail the party.

She knew Daini to be intelligent, industrious, dynamic and the right candidate for the job as the number one citizen of Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA.

Furthermore, the astute, erudite and articulate legislature, Hon. Babajimi Benson, Member Federal House of Representatives, and Hon. Nurudeen Sholaja-Saka who is representing Ikorodu Constituency II at the Lagos State House of Assembly, shared same vision with Hon. Adebimpe Akinsola towards giving a vibrant youth an opportunity to serve.

However, the emergence of Olusesan Daini should be a clarion call for all and he should know that the way up is also the way down. He must not suddenly forget the rigorous struggles put up by concern citizens which saw his emergence.

Daini must not become power drunk in the end because power corrupt and he should also know that there are still mountains he will have to surmount.

Martin Luther King Junior said, “Life is not all about duration; it is about donation." On the side of the current government, Chief Mrs Bolanle Basorun is indeed remarkable in the manner in which she directs, organizes and coordinates the affairs of Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, as the Sole Administrator under 11 months. She is a leader worthy of emulation. I pray that whoever will succeed her will be able to sustain her legacy because she worked assiduously such that the Igbogbo does not disintegrate.

It is in my candid opinion that if we must achieve success in Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, sentiments, assassination of character and anything that is tantamount to drag us backward should be totally condemned. The truth is that we ought to have gone beyond the level our community is today.

On the final note, our organization, Igbogbo/Bayeku Info Magazine; we are not into partisanship or are we out to slander anyone. We are all out to promote idealists and intellectuals who will turn our community around positively.

The growth and development of Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA lies on the shoulder of each and everyone of us. We must equally remember that whatever we do today will be a history tomorrow.

Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, Together, we'll make great things happen !
