INCULCATE YORUBA LANGUAGE IN SCHOOL CURRICULUM: OBA KASALI ADVISED AUTHORITY IN EDUCATION SECTOR

The Palace of Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom played host to Zytoon Montessori Schools, Igbogbo, on Tuesday 14th of March, 2017, when the School visited the Palace in a bid to understand the norms and value of the Palace.

Chief Jelili Oduntan, the Balogun of Igbogbo, officially introduced the Palace Chiefs and thereafter taught the pupils the Palace mannerism and how Oba is being greeted in Yoruba land.

Shortly after that, Otunba Lanre Obayomi carefully explained the Palace protocol and advised the School Authority to endeavour to effectively instill Yoruba language speaking in the pupils.

Furthermore, Chief Tajudeen Alade Onasanya, the Odofin of Igbogbo Kingdom, identified a costly mistake being made by all and sundry as foreign language is being preferred to our language, which is gradually driving our cultural heritage into extinct. Moreover, the High Chief did not hesitate to educate the guests on the paraphernalia being used to decorate a king.

There was a perfect decorum when the King, HRM Oba Abdulsemiu Orimadegun Kasali emphasized that the language of the Palace in Lagos State must be our mother tongue according to the new law of Lagos State. He further explains the functions, roles and the etiquette of the Palace. Afterwards, he prayed for the pupils, teachers and the school.

The teacher that led the team, Mrs Olusanya, thanked the King for gladly accommodating them. She thereafter advised that the parents have vital role to play on effective usage of Yoruba language.

Ustas Taofeek Audu, another teacher who accompanied the pupils to the Palace did not hesitate to specially pray for the King and Igbogbo community at large.
